Fixing the Hip & Leg with Active Release Techniques® September 16, 7-9

This innovative technique breaks up adhesions in muscles, tendons,
ligaments & nerve sheaths & differs from chiropractic, massage &
physical therapy. A.R.T. includes diagnosis, treatment & specific
exercises that will be demonstrated during the seminar. Active Release

Pilates for
Back Pain on the Reformer 9/30 7pm
This course is for you if you have back, hip, or chronic pain, disk
injuries, sports related pain, or lack of control of your abdominal or
back muscles. Even if you have tried Pilates before & have been
unsuccessful, we can fine-tune it so you may find success. Course
objectives include maintaining a pain-free body, finding ideal
alignment, balancing muscles, & increasing flexibility. We will also
discuss common injuries, their causes, & first aid treatment for them.

Rehabilitation with Pilates for the Professional 10/2 7pm
This course is designed for the physical therapist, chiropractor or
accomplished Pilates instructor. This course covers the biomechanical
principles of rehabilitative Pilates, its application to modified mat
work, & reformer exercises. Emphasis is on lumbo-pelvic & shoulder
girdle stabilization & the role they play in rehabilitation & injury
prevention. Participants will also learn the following: review of
Pilates basic principles, identifying proper execution & movement
patterns, effective verbal cueing & imagery, clinical problem solving
using the Pilates method, & exercises for injury prevention &
rehabilitation. Cost: $25.00

Dr. Barry Triestman is dual board certified in nutrition &
chiropractic. He is one of 750 doctors in the country who holds a
diplomate in nutrition. Dr. Triestman received his doctor of
chiropractic degree from New York Chiropractic College. He is certified
in Active Release Techniques® (a specific soft tissue technique) & is a
member of the American Chiropractic Association & its council on
nutrition. Additionally, Dr. Triestman is a member of the California
Chiropractic Association, was selected as an executive officer of the
local chiropractic district, & past President of the board of Tahoe
Women’s Services. Dr. Triestman holds licensure in California &
Nevada. He is also an adjunct professor of anatomy & physiology at

STONEWARE
In touch with the elements: earth, water, air, and fire, each student
will explore and construct, then elaborate and glaze food quality
stoneware projects. Use your imagination! So many useful things can be

Have fun with clay while learning handbuilding and wheel throwing
techniques. Students will enjoy a variety of methods that include molds,
slabs, coils, and the wheel. This class encourages student’s individual
choice of projects to enhance their creative style. Designed for all
levels, beginners to experienced potters are encouraged to attend .

Ballet lV: Dancers will continue to increase their ballet technique and
core strength as well as increase their knowledge of choreography and
style. Pointe work will be basic, working on foot and body core
strength. Requires 3 years ballet.
Ballet V w/Pointe work: Dancers will intensify their knowledge of
classical ballet technique in all styles including French, RAD, and
Cechetti methods. Dancers will also work specific styles of choreography
center floor with increased emphasis on pirouettes, foutes, petite and
grande allegro. Pointe work will increase to include intense and
intricate center floor work. Requires 4 years of ballet.
Intermediate/Advanced class requires 6 years experience.

BB of Salsa Reno has been dancing Salsa for over 10 years and teaching
since 2002. He regularly studies salsa with top salsa dance instructors
from around the world. His current salsa teachers are John and Liz of
Salsamania in Oakland, CA, ranked sixth in the world and he is endorsed
to teach Bachata by Rodney “Rodchata” Aquino, the most respected Bachata
instructor in the Bay area. BB of Salsa Reno teaches at Reno Dance
Sensation and and he is the host and resident instructor for Latin
Thursdays at the Pearl Champagne Lounge in Grand Sierra Resort. With
over 120 active students currently enrolled in weekly salsa lessons in
the Reno area, he feels confident you’re learning a dance with a strong
following that’s embraced by anyone that has heard about this exotic
blend of Afro-Cuban-Caribbean music that is globally recognized as
“Salsa.”

face. Casino is a style of salsa from Cuba and Rueda means “circle”.

Aikido is a non-aggressive, non-competitive Martial Art teaching new
ways of responding to ‘being attacked’. Aikido focuses on how to create

Ki Gong is a several thousand year old practice with similarities to Tai
Chi. It was developed to enhance health & well-being & strengthen the

movements along with focused breathing in a context designed to quiet
the mind & increase mental clarity:students leave class with increased

YANG TAI CHI CHUAN
Tai Chi is an internal (soft-style) ancient Chinese martial art. Its

for health: Chi Gong, meditation, exercise & self defense. Class will be
what you make it as you draw form what interests you. Sifu Steve is also
skilled in the less well known ‘fast’ forms: push hands, weapons & hard
style Kung Fu. Begin balancing your body & mind through stretching,

Whether you call yourself a senior or not, TDRPD is adding a number of
activities for Adults who are 55 years young, or more! Senior Program
Coordinator Susan Duffey Smith will be working with this group to start
new classes, trips, dinners and more. What do you want to do? Please
call with any ideas, suggestions, comments, or if you want to volunteer
with this group or at the Activity Center. The Teen/Senior Office is
located in the Activity Center, 11695 Donner Pass Road, next to the

SENIOR TRIPS
We’re planning some seasonal trips to favorite destinations! Regional
trips take in the best of Tahoe and the foothills for a change of
scenery. All trips depart from and return to the Truckee Senior Center
at 10040 Estates Drive. Seats are limited, so be sure to sign up at
least 2 weeks in advance at the Community Center. Prices vary depending
on destination. Drivers needed! If you have your class B driver’s
license and are interested in being a volunteer driver for Senior trips,
please call 582-7766. If we add more drivers, we will have more seats!

Trip around
Lake Tahoe. Join us for a day of sightseeing all the way around
the lake. We’ll stop at Vista Points, stop at South Shore for some
lunch and maybe a little gambling, then more sightseeing and ice cream
on the way home. Lunch and entertainment is on your own. Departure:

Apple Hill,
Fall is apple picking time at Apple Hill near Camino, CA, so join us for
a day of apple buying, craft fairs, apple eating, music, and pretty much
anything else having to do with apples. We’ll stop for lunch at one of
the many interesting farms. Departure 8:00 am. Return 5:00 pm. Fee:

Daffodil
Hill. Call in March to find out dates for this trip to take in
the masses of spring bulbs in the area known at Daffodil Hill. We may

LEARN-TO-KAYAK
Try kayaking at our beautiful West End beach at Donner Lake. We provide
all the equipment &basic instruction. Then we head out for a little
paddle. What a great way to try a new sport and maybe find a paddling
buddy for future trips. Bring your own PFD or kayak if you prefer.
